Chateau de la Commaraine, a 12th century estate in France's Burgundy region, will open as a five-star hotel in late 2025.
Following a four-year renovation, the 37-room property in the estate's vineyards will feature a spa, a pool, two restaurants and a winery.
The property is set in Pommard village, just 2.5 miles from Burgundy's wine capital of Beaune and the Cote d'Or subregion of Burgundy, whose winemaking history dates to Roman times.
The restoration was led in accordance with France's architectural heritage protection organization, with the aim of keeping the property's character and preserving its original white stone walls in many rooms and suites, along with intricate wooden ceiling vaults, and a neutral color palette.
Some of the 37 accommodations offer views of the vines, and there is also a private four-bedroom residence, complete with its own tasting room.
Inside Chateau de la Commaraine
On-property, guests can sample a variety of wines and cocktails at the bar, located within the Chateau tower built in the 14th century, and savor French cuisine at two dining venues — a restaurant located in the original cellar and a more casual bistro. Both restaurants are supervised by Christophe Raoux, Meilleur Ouvrier de France.
The property also features two expansive terraces, an 18-meter heated outdoor pool, a 24/7 fitness center, a spa and a venue for winery experiences, including tastings.
Off-property, the Chateau de la Commaraine team can arrange a Wine Safari to various local vineyards with tastings in the cellars, hot air balloon rides over the vines, biking through the picturesque villages and abbeys of Burgundy and sailings on the Canal du Centre.
The chateau, which was originally built as a fortified manor by the Dukes of Burgundy, then owned by various noble families over the centuries, now serves as a working winery as well as a luxury wine tourism destination.
Chateau de la Commaraine will debut as part of the Champagne Hospitality collection, which includes Le Barthelemy Hotel & Spa and Le Barth Villa Rental on St. Barts, Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa in Champagne and 25Bis by Leclerc Briant, a guesthouse in an 18th century residence in Epernay. Champagne Hospitality is owned by hotelier and entrepreneur Denise Dupre.
